Project Summary
MeetCute was an initiative designed to redefine how people make friendships in an increasingly digital world. Created as an extension of Bumble BFF, MeetCute aimed to facilitate authentic connections by reducing the awkwardness of meeting new people. The project involved developing the branding, user experience strategies, and interactive events to bring the concept to life.
Concept and Inspiration
The inspiration for MeetCute came from the idea that the best friendships often start in the most unexpected places—a shared table at a café, reaching for the same book at a store, or a casual conversation at an event. We wanted to capture this spontaneity and translate it into an intentional experience. The branding emphasized warmth and inclusivity, using playful yet sophisticated design elements to make the experience feel effortless and natural.
Development Process
We began with extensive research into existing friendship-based platforms and social behaviors around making new connections. We then:
- Developed the brand identity—logo, typography, and color palette that evoked warmth and approachability.
- Designed the event experience—from themed pop-up lounges to conversation-starter cards, ensuring people had natural ways to engage.
- Created digital touchpoints—enhancing Bumble BFF’s user journey with features that guided people from online matching to real-world meetups.
Challenges, Reflections and Key Takeaways
This project expanded my understanding of how branding extends beyond visuals, it’s about shaping experiences. It also strengthened my ability to work collaboratively, ensuring that every team member’s input contributed to a unified vision. Seeing the potential impact of MeetCute made me appreciate the role design plays in shaping human connections.
